Finding your purpose through your passion – a short story on the path that led me to mine…

“They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”  Carl W. Buechner quotes

I have grappled with the question for years. A couple of months ago I was going through old files, and I found my coaching contract from back in 2005. In that contract, I found where I had listed finding my passion as one of my objectives for obtaining a coaching expertise. I did not know at the time this coach really had no concept of how to help me find my passion. Instead, she drove me right back into my field of expertise, where I did prosper, but did not feel great about it.

In that time frame, I also attended Landmark Education, which prides itself in helping you to move forward in your life, and it definitely did just that, however, I still had no idea what my passion was. Moving rapidly along here through the years, up and till 12 months ago, when I met up with my good friend (Paula) for lunch at Panera Bread she mentioned, she was driving and listening to "The Secret". I thought okay, must be some new positive motivational speaker, I have not heard of. Well, we continued our lunch, and caught up on our conversation, and Paula continued to reference "The Secret" throughout; by the middle of our lunch, being the curious person I am. I asked her what is “The Secret”? She responded with it is the “Law of Attraction”, but not so sure it’s working for me. I thought law of attraction, well that is simple, isn’t it? Like attracts Like, Right? Not so much!

I borrowed a copy of the DVD “The Secret”, and I watched the documentary, which did not appeal to me. A couple weeks passed by, and under my new formed habit of, if possible, check out materials from the library, and see if it is something I will use as a reference; I’ll buy it and place in my library. I decided to stop in and see if they had this book "The Secret" and they did. I took it home and read it in a day, and then continued to reference back through the book.

I was so driven by what I read, I asked Paula if she would like to meet-up and discuss it further. She agreed. I then decided to take a look on the internet to see if there was any group meetings on this topic. I did find a group that got together once a month. When I wrote to the organizer, to my amazement this was located 4-blocks from my home. So, I called Paula, and told her about what I had found. We signed up for the first group meeting.

For me this was weird, I come from a very strong Consulting/IT management background. Being raised Roman Catholic, and very spiritual, this was out of my element. We attended the first meeting where at mid-point we both looked at each other like, “oh-boy”; this is not going to work for us. However, after each one of us talked, it quickly brought to our attention; we had some limiting beliefs. Also, we found the law of attraction is more than “like-attracts-like”, it is an authentication of your feelings, and those feelings are energy that attract to you or from you depending on what you are feeling.

I found myself getting more and more interested in using my feelings verses my intellectual side. I found a lot was changing in my life. I intensely began to read and watch whatever I could on the topic of the secret or quantum physics. I hired a personal life coach to keep me focused on my goal. I stumbled across another group on the law of attraction, and found there are multiple views on this topic. It was not for me. Determined this time to find my passion on purpose; I relentlessly continued to acquire knowledge and concepts. Testing to see if I could find the answer I was so intensely searching for. I did find my passion on purpose, and I will take you through the process so you too can live your passion.
