Throwdown with Bobby Flay

Throwdown with Bobby Flay

Sometimes you can't beat the classics. I've seen more cooking shows than I care to admit, but my favorite baking themed TV show has always been "Throwdown with Bobby Flay." It's kind of a twist on the show that made Flay famous, "Iron Chef." But instead of battling against world renown chefs, Flay puts his baking skills to the test against America's most popular restaurant recipes. I especially enjoy the episodes where Flay goes against tide and true favorites like blueberry pancakes, pumpkin pie or french toast. With his culinary background, he always seems to be able to turn the mundane into gourmet food. Unlike "Iron Chef," the point isn't really to win. The deck is stacked against him as the judges are home! town and the competition has had years to perfect their recipes while Flay has what is portrayed as a few days. Another part of the show that I really like is how his assistants, Miriam and Michelle, always give Flay a really hard time. It works well as balance to his cockiness. I also like how they share the recipes online and how the competition gives tips on what makes their recipes end up so much better than most. I love this show so much that not only have I seen every episode through Direct tv, but I've also kept every single episode on my DVR.
